Huge RSD Kits Begin Arriving! Brief Kit Review by Kurt Kuhn (Kuhn Global)

A few weeks ago I received my first (of the two paid for), Alfred Wong patterned, Republic Star Destroyer Kits, which are now offered by KORBANTH. I must say… these are pretty nice.

The box arrived with a small dent in the top from the shippers, but all in all, it was in good condition when it arrived. It had heft to it as well, and when I opened the box to reveal the well packed parts, I could see why. This one was packed so well that not one part was found broken when I finally finished unwrapping it all (a process that took me 1/2 hour). This is great news to me, as I have received kits before from many kit makers (that had been shipped in much smaller boxes) that were delivered to me with broken parts here and there. I take this as a great sign.  The first thing noticeable is how many parts there are, and that some will need significant trimming of flash. That stated…. I found this kit to be quite crisp in cast, with the ‘sometimes’ found teeny tiny bits of rubber mold in tiny detail areas here and there. Not an issue for us at all. If I look really hard, with my aging eyes, and I take extreme close-up shots of the parts, you might see a micro-bubble once in a while… which has been common in this art form, and of which has lessened over this last decade with new technologies and skill. There is a large block of resin that is actually part of the kit… a kind of armature that enforces the overlaying panels. It is heavy for sure, and something we may end up replacing, while keeping it’s form and purpose in mind. There are many guns and long tubular shaped cast parts that we may replace as well, using brass in their stead. Over all… this kit is very build-able, and will display nicely when built. We shall see that review at that time. Alfred Wong did amazing work in creating these patterns. I am very happy to have one, let alone two (the second of which will be in one of those future shipments).

Below you will view the detailed photos…. at least I hope I have the angle you wish to view… lol.

Enjoy the photos!
