Michael Hawes IMPERIAL Display Room UPDATE

Here’s update on gallery. (click HERE to view the first posting). These are 8ft Death Star panels. I am building 8 in total, plus the walk through doors. Having the wholes cut… everything else wasn’t bad. It’s not like we can buy a building panels for dummies, but I guess building them is the cool part. You know I just can’t get over what a genius Lucas and his staff were in the 70s in creating these. They didn’t have computer technology, or CNC machines…. Crazy!
So I purchased a special 1/4″ plywood that has pressed paper so when painted you don’t see wood grain. Then I tried to hand cut but after much frustration had them CNC’d! Then purchased white plexy. The issue at hand is disbursing LED light evenly. So I’m actually putting 7 panels were it will be centered throughout Gallery. I have enough panels and materials left for 3 more. I initially thought I would need 10. The CNC cost was about $700 including design. Plexy was $110 per sheet, and wood materials along with that was pretty expensive at about $475. Then paint and LED’s. More to come…
