We welcome artist Daniel King to our Gallery of shown artists! These paper models are quite outstanding! Daniels build is a great piece indeed!

When I was 10 years old (42 yrs ago,) I first saw the film 2001 A Space Odyssey. I fell in love with the film and all the ships and craft portrayed in the film. My favourite ship is the Discovery, and I have always wanted a model of the ship.

3 1/2 years ago, I found a paper model, designed by respected artist UHU02, of the Discovery.

The whole model is made from 160 gsm paper, and measures in at 120cm long. The command sphere is 13cm in diameter. The only part that is not paper is an aluminium tube that runs the length of the spine of the ship. This provides support against gravity. The model also has internal lighting for the cockpit.

I designed a custom display case for the model, which has a backdrop of space and Jupiter. The display case has lighting installed too.
