Steve Broderick’s Moebius Model Viper Build!

It has been a long time since we have had the pleasure of shown Steve’s works… and this is a fantastic piece to show on his return to our viewers! Beautiful work!

Although not a studio scale model, this classic Colonial Viper, from Moebius Models, was a joy to build and paint. It is a huge improvement over the late 70’s Revell version, which appeared again, in stores, a couple of times during the last few decades. The lines, details, and the overall shape is as close as you can get to the look of the filming models. I’m glad to see that today’s model kit companies are making a huge effort to produce kits that will satisfy even the most demanding fan. To reproduce the colors of the filming model, I used Model Master Pale Gray mixed with Flat white to achieve the base color. To weather the model, I used oil paint washes in black and burnt umber. I also used some weathering powders. I built this model as a birthday present for a friend of mine who is a huge fan of the original series and the new Battlestar Galactica. I have a studio scale resin kit of the Viper, sitting in my model stash, just waiting to be built, this only makes me want to build that one next!
