Ralph McQuarrie Tribute LEGO BUILD – The Viper by Garry King

Professional LEGO artist Gary King continues his Ralph McQuarrie Tribute with this magnificent build of the very original design that never saw the light for Battlestar Galactica in 1978. I am blown away at what Garry can do with LEGOS!

Greetings Everyone.

I have been a tad slow but I have completed another of Ralphs concepts. The Colonial Viper….. Almost hot off the press.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

A very big welcome to my next tribute to RALPH MCQUARRIE.

This is what he envisioned for the COLONIAL VIPER.

Before you say it …… “ it looks like the Y wing from S.W.” with a difference.

As over the past few months I have been building the Cylon raider , then I got stuck and then began on the Battlestar until it was apparent that I will run out of tiles for the hull so I had a look on line for Mr McQuarries viper and in doing so I found an amazing scratch build. Truly Astounding. The next day I enlarged the images so I could zoom in clearly for the extra detail.

There are a number of inconsistencies in my build is not as accurate as I would hope for but it is Lego and it is a ridged medium, improvising was in order and since small build was not an option. This Viper grew larger and larger.

This was a quick and fun build except for the photography and editing PLUS coming up with other ideas to enhance the overall effects. In some images there is a pilot, if you know Lego the pilot has been enlarged to look the part.

Now it is tempting me to build the Colonial viper from the original series. Yes another one but not from me. I have seen so many brilliant, varying styles and colours that others have built over the years.

After this build I will have to get back on the raider. Then one more Special build for the Cylons. I have to give the Toasters a good run, back then to the Colonial Battlestar Galactica to complete my tribute to Mr Ralph Mcquarrie.

The size of this creation is

Length 620mm X Width 360mm X Height 195 mm.

…. Thank you for taking the time to look at this build …..
