Inspired by designs created by industry known John Eaves, and named after the actual Navy Destroyer, this fantastic creation is amazingl! There is something about this piece that really draws my attention. The design is very interesting withe shuttle bays and cargo areas! I like this piece very much.
Here is what Jeff has to say…

Another scratchbuild project that was inspired by the work of Mr. John Eaves…

I wanted to build something a little different (for me) and I loved the starship designs of John Eaves such as the ECS Endeavor, Horizon and Fortunate.

The inspiration came from a small lighting connector I was using to hook up some fluorescent lights. The connector looked like a good shape for a cargo container. Eight months later…the ECS Norris was born!

The entire model is constructed out of .100″ styrene with the usual “greeblies” from Starship Modeler, Plastruct, Evergreen and my own parts collection. Tank and aircraft photo etched detail was also used to add surface detail to the model.

Duro grey primer provided the main color of the ship and weathering was done with oils and weathering powers. The decals were done with Adobe Illustrator and printed on decal paper on my own inkjet printer.

The two work pods were also scratch built and to add some extra interest to the model I left one of the cargo container doors open with the pod delivering a shipment! The interior of the container is also fully detailed. The larger work shuttle was designed for larger loads and the shape was inspired by the Ford Ranchero from the ’60’s.

The model is 36″ long and weighs in at a hefty 5.5 pounds! It is named after the USS Norris destroyer that my wife’s dad served on from 1954-1962. The number of my Norris is the same as the Navy destroyer, #859.
