KORBANTH Studio Scale TIE X-1 Kit Review by Kurt Kuhn (Kuhn Global)

I very much enjoy when I get to tell people of certain items I purchase…. especially when the quality of my choice of purchase turns out to be excellent.

I recently purchased the Studio Scale TIE Fighter X1 from KORBANTH. Since I know this is the second, much more accurate, version that Christ Kelley patterned a few years ago, I had great interest in it. I had purchased the first version, and I was happy with it at the time, yet I realized it wasn’t quite like the original studio model. Like any studio modeler, it dug at me a bit. With this new kit, I wanted to see if the new created parts truly were exact enough to build a true replica of the original. With what I received, the parts do indeed look amazing, and I believe they will build up to be a great studio scale replica of the TIE x1. It is clear that all the master parts were not supplied in the sale of the patterns to Korbanth. That stated, even though this current kit is still missing a few parts (as ), all the details look to be correct to my eye. In answer to the missing parts, Korbanth is soon to have the remaining kit parts supplied by the master of this kit, Chris Kelly, adding to what you see here. It will make a fantastic replica!

I kept my photos shown here at their full resolution that you all may view the parts I received up close. The details are fantastic and I am impressed with the casts produced by artist Mark Worley for Korbanth. They are crisp, clean, and ready to build. Like any resin kit, it still will require a bit of skill, but I can state that this kit is very well designed and should be enjoyed by anyone considering themselves to be model builders within the average to expert range. Note that the iconic wings come in several pieces, and it shall be the builder that builds them to their correct angles.

As of when I took these photos, Korbanth owner Randy Johnson explained to me that he was debating on the pilot figure. The studio scale pilot is simply a helmeted driver… like all of them were back then. I suggested he offer both the original studio scale pilot design,… and a Vader figure as well. I am fairly sure they will both be available for the kit soon enough. As of right now it is only my own speculation. I can say that my own build will have Vader in the cockpit, and that the build shall be as if we had shrunken down the actual Vader X1 (if it had been a real, life-sized fighter). LOL…. what can I say… it is how I like them.

Excellent job to Chris Kelley on an outstanding pattern created,… to Mark Worley for excellent casts, and finally to Korbanth for producing and offering this great kit.
