Kuhn Global’s 1/20 FM Model Co Colonial Viper MK7e – Modified as the Pierre Drolet MK7B Replica – by Dan Grumeretz

Here is a model kit that has been sitting in a box for years. We are just now getting to many of those that have been waiting to be built. This 1/20 MK7E Super Viper was built from the FM Model Company kit…. a fantastic GK model company that no longer produces kits. That stated, I am pleased to have both their MK7E and their MK2 Viper’s in 1/20 scale.

Dan has done beautiful work on this Viper, modifying it slightly to resemble the amazing digital model Viper MK7B created by artist Pierre Drolet for Battlestar Galactica, and of which may be seen on his site SciFi Museum. The kit itself was very well made (as was FM Model Company’s usual). Dan raised a few panels along the mid to rear wing area that run along the engine fuselage, and even filled in some panel lines, creating new ones to again resemble what Pierre had created. Dan also added some fill to obtain the rounded shape on each side of the cockpit fuselage area, and added the tiny directional thruster’s found around the model. He then made the pilot to be Lt Kara Thrace “Starbuck”, adding the appropriate name on each side of the canopy, and also added all of the “No Step” and Colonial markings on the hull… entirely with paint! One thing to note is that there is a number on the front of nose…. and after discussing it, we chose to honor the date of the original series, thus the 1978NC was added. What is funny is that I recently received photos from artist Tony Celliers of his build from his own amazing and huge 1/17 Viper MK7E Kit that showed the exact same numbers as we had done! HA! No… this was not planned. Great artists think alike! Tony’s Viper showing will be above this one, toward the top of this weeks update.

I want to thank the FM Model Company (Frank and Moe), Pierre Drolet, and artist Dan Grumeretz for fantastic work. You have made this come to life.
