In 1966, as the Gemini program was nearing an end, it was becoming obvious that a new system would soon be necessary to ferry large numbers of astronauts to the military and civilian space stations then being planned. (Ah, the 1960s!) McDonnell Douglas, primary contractors for the Gemini spacecraft, proposed building upon their existing technology to fill this need with an enlarged spacecraft that could transport up to 12 passengers plus 12 tons of payload 6 to 14 times per year.

The “Big Gemini” — or “Big G” as it was known — was set to be operational by 1971. However, by that time, virtually all of America’s space station projects had been abandoned and there was no longer a use for this system. “Big G” was deep-sixed.

holding up the Vader TIE X-1 as if it were flying!

For beauty & accuracy, the base was cast direct from the old Death Star base

panels the now defunct company ICONS once used with their displays

over 10 years ago.

Also included is a fully detailed cockpit with Vader Figure inside!

The U.S.S. Emmette is one of the most mysterious Federation ships in the entire Star Trek canon. The ship is glimpsed only briefly in the opening credits of “Star Trek: Enterprise” following the launch of the Phoenix One warpship and the unveiling of the NX-01. Shown approaching what appears to be a Moon base (In the 4th Season “Mirror Universe” opener it bombs the Moon base), the craft disappears and is never referenced again.

Fan speculation is that the Emmette was an early warp ship designed for testing and exploration within the solar system. This would explain the amount of real estate dedicated to conventional rocket engines; if the warp drive failed, the chemical rockets could provide enough power to ensure the ship’s return to Earth.

Many fans are also eager to note the similarities between the Emmette and the 23rd century Romulan Bird of Prey. Trek canon has long held that the Romulans stole the basic design for their BOP from the Federation; the Emmette may have been the spaceframe that inspired the subsequent Romulan warship.

Ian never ceases to amaze me with his skills as a master, professional modeler. One of the beautiful additions to this piece was that which was taken away in the open paneling.. showing the interior hoses of the engineered X-Wing! Fantastic! Also…being this is RED 4 really made a difference. We collectors hardly ever see RED 4 built, and viewing THIS interpretation of it is absolutely refreshing! Once again… another masterpiece from master U.K. Artist Ian Lawrence!

Here are a few words from modeler David Shaw…

The model is two-third scale to the original 33 inch study/filming model of the Enterprise, which makes it 1/500 scale
overall. The original model was 33.75 inches long and 15 inches wide, this model is 22.5 inches long and 10 inches wide.

This model was sort of a “proof of concept” that I could even build the shapes. The next version will be not only the exact same size as the original (lost) model, but made of the same materials (kiln-dried sugar pine). I’m now researching what I need to know to do that type of wood work.

It has been pointed out that I could build a full size replica using the same techniques that I used on this model… and it would be
easier. But I’d really like to replicate the original inside-and-out because the original has been missing since 1978 (and is most likely
lost forever).

Pro modeler Mark Nehmzow of NemVia Productions has taken on many starship builds in his day, but these are the most he has taken on at the same time. Using THREE of the giant 46 inch DeBoer Enterprise Kits, ONE 36 inch DeBoer (Northstar) Reliant Kit (No Longer produced), and ONE 34 inch Polar Lights Enterprise kit, he has his table full! Looking at Mark’s previous Enterprise builds, I know these will be just as dynamic and full of life! I am very much looking forward to these being completed!
